WHAT IS GUMS?
Gums are the tissues that covers the part of the tooth. It appears like coral pink in colour.
Gums should have a scalloped margin with knife edged papilla.
If gums get infected, becomes inflamed and reddish in colour.
Loss of scalloped margin and blunt interdental papilla
REASON FOR GUM INFECTION
Food deposits accumulated on tooth surface as well as into gum surface.
High risk for gum infection:

Puberty, Pregnancy, Menopause -hormonal changes will cause gums more sensitive which reflects inflammation on the gums as a result.

Smokers -they are higher risk than non-smokers.

Systemic disease like diabetes, cancer, auto immune disease –the bacteria present in the mouth act as a immune suppressors and they will react with immune cells that results in gum infections such as gingivitis, periodontitis etc.

Gum paint is used in bleeding /swollen gums.

This gum paint is a combination of tannic acid, zinc chloride and cetrimide.

The tannic acid will reduces the bleeding, relieves the swollen gums by precipitating the proteins in the cell’s results contraction on the gums
HOW TO PREVENT GUM INFECTION

Brushing twice daily

Flossing at least once a day

Using mouth wash and gel

Dental checkup at least 6 months once
