What happens after the root canal treatment ?
Root canal treatment is a dental procedure performed to remove infection from the tooth canal, thus preventing reinfection and saving your tooth. When you undergo the root canal therapy, the infected or inflamed pulp (heart of the tooth) is removed, and the inside part of your tooth is disinfected and cleaned, then sealed and filled. After the root canal treatment (removal the pulp), patient will have a tooth that is painless and hollow.
Since the pulp has been removed from the tooth, there is chance for fracture of tooth when patient bite anything hard on it, and hence dental crown will improve the strength of the tooth and help in chewing.
Importance of the dental crown post root canal treatment.
1.Fix a broken tooth.
Teeth tends to become brittle/ weak after the root canal procedure because of the removal of pulp. It is necessary to help strengthen the tooth.
- How can we strengthen the teeth?
After completing the root canal procedure, your dentist may decide to protect your broken tooth with a crown to restores its pleasing aesthetics and functionality. Dental crowns cover the broken tooth , provide strength to the teeth and help in chewing food.
2.Prevents Re-infection of the tooth.
Dental crowns are not just for aesthetics. They can play a vital role in preventing your tooth by sealing it off from the leakages to avoid re-contamination of the tooth.
